Riverina Medical and Dental Aboriginal Corporation (RivMed) hosted a special Elder’s event to celebrate National Seniors Day in early October.
Aboriginal elders from all over the Wagga Wagga region gathered for a special lunch with laughter, trivia, raffles, music and a good yarn.
Attendees were encouraged to share their favourite family recipes. These will be contributed to a legacy cookbook that celebrates the culinary traditions of community.
Peta Larsen, RivMed’s Chief Executive Officer said the cookbook is a knowledge sharing practice that captures the cooking expertise of RivMed’s elder community.
“Through the RivMed’s Elders Group Program, our team are working with community to provide outcomes that will leave a legacy for generations to come,” Ms Larsen explained.
“The luncheon was an opportunity to connect with RivMed’s Elders and acknowledge their wisdom and lived experiences,
“Events like this remind us to celebrate our Wiradjuri Elders, Aunts, Uncles, and our knowledge holders and the importance of supporting and caring for our Elders.”
“A special thank you RivMed’s Aged Care Connector Barbara Gillen for facilitating such a heartwarming event,” she added.
RivMed’s Elder Care Program removes barriers and increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who receive care on Country.
