Riverina Medical and Dental Aboriginal Corporation (RivMed) is a long-established Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation in the heart of Wiradjuri Country. RivMed provides medical, and dental services, and social and emotional well-being programs and has been working for 30 years in the Riverina communities. RivMed works to effect change with the most marginalized and vulnerable people in our community. We work to achieve this through the provision of culturally appropriate medical, allied health, and well-being services for Aboriginal people and their families.

The opportunity

 

RivMed is currently seeking to fill a minimum of 2 Aboriginal Health Worker / Practitioner positions in our multi-disciplinary team.  Aboriginal Health Workers play a key role in combating the high burden of disease and mortality rates in Aboriginal communities.

The Role

 

The successful applicant will work within a supportive and passionate team at Riverina Medical & Dental Aboriginal Corporation to deliver services and to ensure the best culturally appropriate outcomes for Aboriginal people.

The Aboriginal Health Workers will provided services, such as community liaison and engagement, advocacy, health promotion and education, culturally safe services, cultural education and brokerage, community development and disease prevention.

 The successful applicant will work within a supportive and passionate team at Riverina Medical & Dental Aboriginal Corporation to deliver these services and to ensure the best culturally appropriate therapeutic outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.

About you, to be successful in the role you will be able to demonstrate you meet the Selection Criteria below:

 

  1. Aboriginality – This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position and candidates will be required to provide confirmation of Aboriginality. (NB: applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
  2. Motivation to provide service excellence
  3. Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  4. Excellent oral and interpersonal communications skills
  5. Clinical skills as applicable to the position of an Aboriginal Health Worker or Aboriginal Health Practitioner
  6. Ability to identify situations where a more senior staff member or clinically qualified staff member is required for assistance
  7. Ability to problem solve effectively and to prioritise workload 
  8. Ability to liaise and develop relationships within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of the area.
  9. Commitment to ongoing participation in education, professional development, evidence based research and quality assurance.
